Day of Adventure
We departed for Giant’s Causeway where we walked down to the water and hiked the bizarre basalt columns that are almost all hexagonal in shape. We explored “the boot” and “chimney” formations before returning up the hill to visit the inviting visitor’s center where we learned about the legend of Finn MacCool. We bussed to Bushmill’s distillery for a guided tour of the whiskey brewing process, capped off by whiskey tasting and lunch. Toured Dunluce Castle situated on a rocky cliff about the North Atlantic. Next stop, Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge. We hiked across the rope bridge to the small island to explore. Back across and hiked to the little shop for a snack before heading back to Portrush. A few of us got dropped off on the way at the Royal Portrush Golf Club to have a brief look at the course, clubhouse and pro shop. After walking back into town, and a short rest, we set out and found a wonderful dinner on our own at The Mermaid, overlooking the harbor. We finished off the night with an Irish Coffee back in the lobby and then we were off to bed.
